A GUIDE TO SUBMISSION CATEGORIES

Traditional Art-
This category is for all non-digital artworks. (Art that is made/drawn in real life, not on the computer) Paintings, pencil, markers, collage, etc is acceptable. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE PHOTOS.

Digital Art-
This category is for all artworks that are made using the computer, this can include works that started as traditional media but were later altered by computer. (ie. adding color, effects, etc)

Photos-
This category is for all lolita related photographs. Photos of people wearing lolita fashion, snapshots and photos of lolita related/themed still life photos are accepted.

Clothing-
This category is for all images relating to hand-sewn lolita clothing. Items may be modeled on a person however the main focus must be on the clothing and not the overall photo. Photos of clothing by itself or on mannequins are more easily accepted.

Commissionable Artists-
This category is for images that are made solely for advertising and price lists of people open for commissions. Please look at the other images in this category for an idea on how to list yourself if you are interested in advertising your services.

Miscellaneous-
This category is for any lolita related work that doesn't quite fit in any of the other folders. Submissions here can include computer wallpapers, stamps, memes, and literature.

Deco Items-
This category is for all pre-made items that have been decorated or altered from their original state. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE ACCESSORIES AND HANDICRAFTS.

Accessories-
This category is for all lolita related jewelery and accessories.

Contest-
This category is for submitting entries into our running contest! All submissions to this folder may be of any media and no entries will be rejected. (Unless they don't fit the contest theme)
Just a quick announcement.

Since our "Wallpaper" folder doesn't get used very often, I decided to rename it "Miscellaneous", and expand it to be suitable for anything lolita that just can't quite fit in with the other folders.

Our "Miscellaneous" folder can include:
-wallpapers
-stamps
-memes
-literature

Please keep in mind that all of these must still be lolita related.

That's all, thank you!

um... I dont want to seem stupid or anything but I've been wanting to wear lolita for while now but my mom said I can't wear it because that wouldn't help me get a job, I'm always going to my brother's basketball games and I can't wear anything that would make him look bad. Is there a type of lolita or a way to make lolita acceptable to wear for a 19 year old. Or is there a way to make it look um.... more adult like.

Hi!

The majority of western lolitas seem to be about 18-21 years old, so you're pretty average age-wise. :)

From discussions I've seen on blogs and the EGL livejournal community, most lolitas agree that there is a time and place to dress up. Many of us have jobs where it would be inappropriate or distracting to be in lolita, so it's common to wear it out on the weekends, to meetups/cons, or just on our own freetime. (though I don't really see how it could keep you from getting a job, unless you plan on going to the interview in lolita [not really a good idea])
You might be interested in some of the posts on the EGL lj about issues with age and parents.

Other than wearing full blown lolita during your own time, you can certainly tone down the style to be more suitable for other events. Classic and some gothic substyles of lolita generally look more 'mature' when compared to sweet. You should also look up the term 'casual lolita' or even 'otome' fashion, which shares a lot of similar aesthetics to lolita.
If you're unfamiliar with all the terms and substyles of lolita, these sites have a lot of great information:

And here's a tumblr blog with examples of otome fashion: [link]

The most common way I've seen lolita worn simpler is to just forgo the petticoat and wear the jumperskirt like a sundress. Instead of a blouse underneath, wear a cute cardigan over it. Also avoid knee/thigh socks, and either go bare legged or with tights. Wear flats or simple shoes, and avoid over-the-top wigs and too many accessories.

I recommend reading this article about dressing more mature in lolita: [link]
(Her entire blog in general is a great resource!)

Hope that helps! :)

To clarifiy on my mother asking how I was going to get a job, she's concerned with me running into a future employer. Talking about getting a job while I'm not wearing job approved clothing. My mom has been getting me to let go of "childish things," and she sees lolita as me trying to hold on to something childish, and with our christian background she doesn't approve of a lot of the lolita styles, actually she doesn't like any of them. I was born in Japan so I want to stay connected and keep my "childish things." Oh Lord I'm ranting sorry about that, but what I wanted to say was thank you so much for responding and helping me out. It helped so much

Strict parents can be really frustrating. :/ Lolita is very much about being modest and ladylike. I'm Christian and I don't think it conflicts with my beliefs at all. Dressing in lolita doesn't mean you are trying to look childish or like a little girl. It's inspired by historical fashion, not only Victorian and Rococo, but 1950s fashion as well. Maybe one thing you could point out to your mom is that vintage fashion is in style and it's actually very mature and sophisticated! :)

Hi there! Your submission was declined because we only accept artistic/high quality photographs, in this case your face is blocked out with an image and the quality doesn't meet the group standards.

Oh, ok, so you only accept like, professional photos? :hmm:

Or, if I don't cover my face in a photo then it's ok?

I just wanna know, cause I'm no professional photographer and do not have a high priced camera to take pic's with, just a simple digital one.

If I submit another photo where my face (or maybe a back shot) is visible, would that be ok? Please let me know, thanks! =^_^=
